Absolute Silent Day or Nyepi in Bali Island on march 13, 2010

PRESS RELEASE

           No. 001/PR/III/2010

 

A.     There Would be observance of Absolute Quiet Day  or Nyepi in Bali Island on Tuesday, 16th  March 2010. The day marking the first day of the Balinese Saka calendar 1932. In regards with this event, it is strictly prohibited to do the following activities throughout Bali Island :

·   No lights may be lit.

·   No work may be performed.

·   No Travel may be carried out

·   No amusements enjoyed

·   Silence must be maintained.

B.           Nyepi will be officially recognized, from 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 until 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2010.

 

C.           The flight operation at Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali Island) on that day can be explained as below :

       a. Domestic and International Flights:

    1. Flights with last destination and first departure from Ngurah Rai Airport    (Bali Island) will not be on operation.

    2. Embarkation will be allowed for transit flights only, and no embarkations are allowed for passengers with last destination to Denpasar; or depart from Denpasar, Bali Island.

       b. Over Fly, Technical Landing, and Emergency Landing (Including Evacuation):

1.  During Nyepi, it will only be allowed for Over Fly, Technical Landing and   Emergency Landing (including Medical Evacuation).

2.  Technical Landing, aircraft crews and passengers in particular, are obliged to stay at the airport territory during Nyepi (24 hours).

       c. The Tour Operators that are promoting their tour packages to Bali during this event is expected to explain the meaning and the function of “ Saka New Year 1932” to foreigners in order to avoid misleading information about the basic philosophy of the holiday itself.

D.           All entries to Bali via sea-ports will be closed during the celebration.

E.           Customary dispensation which is issued by traditional villages will be given to those carrying the sick, women giving birth to a child, or those who are in a hazardous condition.

F.            The above arrangement is applied in Bali Island only, from 06.00 a.m. on March 16, 2010 until 06.00 a.m. on March 17, 2010. There will be no such arrangement in the other parts of Indonesia.
